Tinakilly Country House Hotel

Tinakilly Country House Hotel is a Victorian country-house hotel built in the 1870s for Captain William Halpin, the officer responsible for laying the first transatlantic telegraph cable. The house stands in seven acres of mature walled gardens in Rathnew, County Wicklow, two kilometres from Wicklow town and approximately four kilometres from the coast at Wicklow Head. The RDS showgrounds are within a short drive, as are the gardens at Mount Usher.

The building's Victorian origins are legible throughout the public rooms: high ceilings, wide bay windows, and period fireplaces frame the lounges and dining room, while the facade's granite and red-brick detailing reflects the prosperity of the late nineteenth century. The seven acres include a walled kitchen garden, herbaceous borders, and established trees that create a genuine sense of seclusion despite the property's proximity to Wicklow town.

Accommodation divides into four categories: Classic, Superior, Junior Suite, and the Captain's Suite, which occupies the main house's principal bedroom and offers views across the Wicklow landscape. The hotel restaurant specialises in Irish produce including Wicklow lamb, local seafood, and kitchen garden vegetables; breakfast is full Irish and included in most rates.
