The Fern Gir Forest Resort

The Fern Gir Forest Resort is an eco-certified resort at Sasan Gir in the Junagadh district of Gujarat, India, a few minutes from the safari entry gate of Gir National Park. Gir is the last natural home of the Asiatic lion, and Sasan is the small village that serves as the base for visits. Junagadh, with its Uparkot Fort and Mahabat Maqbara, is about 60 kilometres away, and Somnath Temple lies roughly 45 kilometres to the south. The nearest airport is at Diu or Rajkot, and Keshod also has a small airfield, so most visitors arrive by road or rail.

The resort is a low-rise property set in gardens, with cottage-style accommodation that fits the forest surroundings. Rooms are offered as Deluxe Cottages, Premium Cottages and Suites, with air conditioning and wifi, and the setting is quiet apart from bird and forest sounds. The eco-certification reflects attention to resource use and local sourcing.

The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, mainly vegetarian Gujarati fare alongside broader Indian dishes. Because safaris start at dawn, early breakfast or packed meals are commonly available on request. As Gujarat is a dry state, alcohol arrangements should be confirmed in advance.

A swimming pool and garden give guests a place to relax between the morning and afternoon safari sessions. The safari desk helps guests with the permits, timings and jeep bookings for Gir, which is important because entry permits are limited and are often booked well in advance through the forest department's online system. Naturalist-led drives and guidance can be arranged. Service is oriented toward wildlife-focused families and couples. Rates typically run from about INR 6,000 to INR 11,000 per night, and the park is closed during the monsoon, usually from mid-June to mid-October, so the resort is mainly used from mid-October to mid-June.
