Rann Utsav - The Tent City, Dhordo

Rann Utsav - The Tent City is a seasonal tented camp at Dhordo village on the edge of the White Rann of Kutch, a vast seasonal salt desert in western Gujarat, India. The camp operates roughly from November to February, in line with the Rann Utsav festival, and is set up for the winter months when the salt flats are dry and accessible. Dhordo lies about 80 km north of Bhuj, and the drive usually takes around 1.5 to 2 hours; the Rann itself, including the sunset and full-moon viewing points, is a short ride from the camp. The setting is remote, flat and dramatic, with white salt stretching to the horizon, and the tent city recreates a festival village with landscaped grounds, craft stalls and cultural performances. Accommodation is offered as Deluxe Tents, Premium Tents, Luxury Tents and Royal Tents, with attached bathrooms, and the higher categories offer more space and better furnishings. Amenities include a restaurant serving vegetarian Gujarati meals, cultural programmes with folk music and dance in the evenings, camel and jeep rides, and wifi in common areas. Dining is buffet style and vegetarian, in keeping with local rules and food culture. There is no conventional pool or spa, and nights can be cold in winter, so warm clothing is useful. Service is festival-oriented, with organised activities and transport to viewing points. Rates typically range from INR 8,000 to 22,000 per night, and are higher at weekends and during peak holiday periods.
