Top 10 Beaches
The best beaches Attica has to offer.
Vouliagmeni Beach
One of the most prestigious beaches on the Athens Riviera, Vouliagmeni Beach combines a sand-and-shingle coastline with organized sunbeds, beach bars, and the famous adjacent mineral lake. The area has a refined atmosphere and attracts an affluent Athenian crowd.
Vouliagmeni Lake
A genuinely unique natural phenomenon — a brackish mineral lake in a limestone cavern opening where warm water (22-29°C year-round) emerges from underground. The milky-turquoise water is said to have healing properties and is a year-round swimming destination unlike anything else in Europe.
Glyfada Beach
The most accessible Athens Riviera beach from the city center, Glyfada has a long sandy stretch with calm, clear waters. The surrounding town has excellent restaurants and shopping. Very popular with Athenian families at weekends.
Varkiza Beach
The longest beach in Attica stretching approximately one kilometer with shallow, gentle waters ideal for families with young children. Multiple beach clubs, water sports facilities, and restaurants line the shore.
Limanakia Beach
Three small hidden coves with extraordinarily clear turquoise water and dramatic rocky outcrops. No facilities but beloved by freedivers, snorkelers, and those seeking a more natural beach experience away from organized beach clubs. A true hidden gem.
Asteria Beach (Glyfada)
The most glamorous organized beach in central Athens Riviera, Asteria has crystal-clear water, quality beach clubs, and the popular Barceloneta restaurant. A sophisticated daytime experience.
Alimos Beach (Kalamaki)
One of the closest proper beaches to Athens center with light-blue waters and a deep sandy seafloor. Popular with locals during the week due to its easy public transport access.
Kavouri Beach
A less-developed stretch of the Riviera with a mix of organized beach clubs and quieter free sections. Popular with local residents from the upscale surrounding neighborhood and those who want a more tranquil experience.
Voula Beach
Two municipal organized beaches (Voula A and Voula B) offering good facilities at reasonable prices. Clean, well-maintained, and popular with local families. A good balance of quality and value.
Palaio Faliro Beach
The closest beach to central Athens along the old coastal road, with a long promenade popular for jogging and cycling. The beach itself has been significantly improved with clean water and is good for an easy urban beach day.
