Best Time to Visit
Best Months
April-May and September-October
Spring and autumn offer ideal weather (18-25°C), manageable crowds, lower prices, and the most pleasant conditions for sightseeing ancient sites and hiking. April sees wildflowers on the mountains; September has warm seas for swimming.
Months to Avoid
Mid-July to mid-August
The hottest period in Attica with temperatures regularly reaching 35-40°C, intense humidity, maximum crowds at sites, highest accommodation prices, and a real heat stress risk during outdoor sightseeing.
Climate Overview
Attica has a classic Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild, moderately rainy winters. Athens enjoys nearly 2,800 hours of sunshine annually, making it one of Europe's sunniest capitals. Summer months (June-September) are virtually rainless, while winter brings occasional rainstorms and rare cold snaps from the north.
