Kavouri Beach

Kavouri Beach occupies a stretch of the Athens Riviera coastline between Glyfada and Vouliagmeni, in the affluent residential suburb of Kavouri within the municipality of Vari-Voula-Vouliagmeni, approximately 20 kilometres south of central Athens. The area is distinguished from much of the organized Riviera by a mix of privately operated beach club sections and longer stretches of quieter, less-developed shoreline accessible free of charge. The beach itself consists of fine sand and small pebbles, with water that shifts from pale turquoise close to the shingle to a deeper green-blue as depth increases. The coastline is not strongly exposed, sitting in a relatively sheltered position along the Saronic Gulf, and conditions are generally calm with minimal swell. The character of Kavouri is decidedly local and residential — the surrounding streets are lined with upscale villas and family residences, and the beach draws a crowd that skews toward Athenian residents from the suburb and nearby Glyfada rather than international tourists. Small beach bars and café kiosks operate during the summer season in the organized sections, though the facility level is more modest than the elaborate clubs of central Glyfada or Vouliagmeni. The free sections of shoreline are used extensively by local walkers, swimmers, and families who prefer to bring their own equipment. A coastal pine forest fringing parts of the waterfront provides natural shade — a rarity among Athens Riviera beaches, where sun umbrella hire is usually the only shade option. Public transport serves the area via bus routes from Glyfada, and the coastal road allows car access with roadside parking at various points. The rocky sections of the bay support productive snorkelling, with more marine life than the purely sandy stretches of nearby beaches.
