Ith Ridge Trail (Ith-Klippen)

The Ith ridge trail follows the exposed shell-limestone cliffs of the Ith, a narrow, steep-sided range in the Weserbergland popular with both hikers and rock climbers. The route starts at the Wanderparkplatz Ithsattel near Coppenbrügge, reachable by regional bus from Hameln followed by a short walk, with parking directly at the trailhead. The path covers about 11 kilometers with 300 meters of elevation gain, climbing through beech forest onto the ridge crest, where it runs along a series of limestone outcrops known as the Ith-Klippen. The trail surface alternates between packed dirt in the forested sections and exposed rock at the cliff edges, where care is needed close to the drop-offs; the route is not technically a scramble, but the proximity to unguarded ledges makes it unsuitable in wet or icy conditions. Along the ridge, hikers pass several named rock formations and cave openings used historically as shelter, as well as viewpoints looking out over the rolling farmland of the Weserbergland toward the Weser valley to the west. Shade is intermittent, with open cliff-top sections exposed to sun and wind. There are no water sources, refuge huts, or emergency shelters along the ridge itself; the nearest facilities are back at the Ithsattel car park or in Coppenbrügge village. A natural turn-around point for a shorter outing is the main viewpoint roughly at the trail's midpoint, cutting the round trip to about 6 kilometers.
