An afternoon stop at the Bomann Museum covers regional history and folk costume, while the Stadtkirche's tower offers a lookout over the old town's rooftops for those willing to climb. Lunch options cluster around the Marktplatz and Zöllnerstraße, with bakeries and traditional Lower Saxon restaurants serving dishes like Grünkohl in season; the palace's own café is a convenient rest stop between the morning and afternoon halves of the visit. The full loop from Schlossplatz through the old town and back to the station covers under two kilometers, so the day trip suits visitors who prefer a relaxed pace over a packed itinerary. Any season works for the palace interior and old town streets, but spring is the standout time thanks to the French Garden's flowering borders and mild walking weather; a late-morning arrival avoids the earliest palace tour groups while still leaving a full afternoon for the old town.
