Le Touquet-Paris-Plage — Côte d'Opale

Le Touquet-Paris-Plage sits on the Côte d'Opale in Pas-de-Calais, about 240 kilometres from Paris, and is defined by a very wide expanse of fine sand stretching some 15 kilometres along the Channel coast. The beach is flat, open and exposed to the coast's characteristic wind, which is part of its appeal — Le Touquet is one of France's best-known spots for land yachting (char à voile) and other wind-powered beach sports, alongside surf lessons for visitors wanting to get in the water. Because the beach is so broad and shallow-sloped, low tide exposes a large expanse of firm, packed sand well suited to sports and long walks, while high tide brings the water much closer to the dunes. The town behind the beach has a distinctly upscale, resort character, with casinos, designer shops, a golf course and pine forest walks just inland, giving Le Touquet a more polished, activity-driven vibe than a typical quiet family beach, though families are still well catered for with sheltered play areas near the town centre. Restaurants and cafés line the seafront promenade, and the beach itself has areas for sunbathing as well as designated zones for wind sports to keep swimmers and land-yacht traffic separate. From Paris, the fastest route is by TGV from Gare du Nord to Étaples-Le Touquet, taking around 1 hour 40 minutes from roughly €20 (about $22), followed by a short bus or taxi ride of about 10 minutes to reach the beach itself, costing €10–€15. Parking is available near the seafront but can be busy in summer, particularly around events. The scale of the beach means it rarely feels crowded even on a warm day, since the sheer width absorbs visitors easily compared with smaller Channel coast beaches.
