Lac Daumesnil — Bois de Vincennes

Lac Daumesnil is the larger of the two lakes in the Bois de Vincennes, on the eastern edge of Paris in the 12th arrondissement. It is not a beach for swimming — bathing is not permitted in the lake — but it functions as one of the city's most popular outdoor waterside spaces, with a shoreline path circling the water and two small wooded islands, Île de Reuilly and Île de Bercy, connected to the banks by footbridges. The water itself is calm and enclosed, more pond-like than a beach in feel, bordered by lawns, trees and picnic areas rather than sand. From April to October, visitors can hire rowing boats and pedal boats from the boathouse for around €12 per hour, giving a closer view of the islands and the small Buddhist pagoda tea house on Île de Reuilly. Outside boating season the lake remains a year-round destination for walking, jogging and picnicking around its perimeter path, roughly 2 kilometres in length. The atmosphere is relaxed and family-friendly, busiest on warm weekend afternoons when Parisians picnic on the surrounding lawns, and quieter on weekday mornings. There are no lifeguards and no designated swimming zone, and visitors should not expect beach-style amenities such as loungers or showers; the closest facilities are the boat-hire kiosk, snack vendors near the boathouse, and public restrooms at a few points along the path. Access is easy from central Paris: Métro line 8 stops at Porte Dorée a short walk from the lake, and bus route 46 also serves the area. Parking is available nearby but limited on busy weekends, so most visitors arrive by métro or on foot from the surrounding neighbourhoods.
