Scuba Diving — Revellata Peninsula

The Revellata Peninsula, situated just west of Calvi on the northwest coast of Haute-Corse, is one of Corsica's premier diving destinations. The peninsula forms a rocky headland enclosing Calvi Bay to the north, and its underwater topography — a mix of steep granite walls, posidonia meadow plains, and shallow reefs — supports an exceptional range of Mediterranean marine life. Calvi Plongée, based at the Port de Plaisance in Calvi marina, is the principal dive operator servicing the Revellata sites and caters to all experience levels, from introductory baptism dives to technical dives for qualified divers. Introductory dives take participants to depths of 5–8 metres under direct instructor supervision; no prior certification is required and the minimum age is typically 8–10 years. Certified divers can access the full portfolio of sites, including the celebrated B-17 Flying Fortress wreck at 30 metres. The aircraft was shot down in August 1944 and lies largely intact on a sandy seabed, with fuselage sections, engine nacelles, and tail assembly clearly visible. This dive requires at minimum an Open Water certification; Advanced certification is recommended. Other notable sites include the Christ de la Profondeur statue at 17 metres, granite archways on the northern face of the peninsula, and extensive posidonia meadows sheltering sea horses, octopus, and peacock wrasse. Grouper, moray eels, and occasional barracuda are regularly sighted along the deeper walls. Visibility at Revellata is typically 15–25 metres from April through October, with the clearest water in June and July before summer crowds arrive. Water temperatures range from 16°C in April to 26°C in August. All equipment — BCD, regulator, tank, wetsuit, mask, and fins — is provided by Calvi Plongée (+33 4 95 65 33 67). Dive briefings are conducted in French and English. The site is reached from Calvi marina by boat in approximately 20 minutes. Morning departures are recommended for optimal conditions; the Libecciu northwest wind can generate afternoon chop.
