Vieux Lyon and Fourvière

Book 6-8 weeks ahead for the Festival of Lights (around 8 December), and well ahead of large trade fairs such as Sirha Lyon, when central rooms sell out.
Hotels around Part-Dieu and Perrache stations are cheapest on weekends, when business demand drops.
Vieux Lyon and Fourvière hotels are on hills and cobbled streets; confirm lift access, parking and a taxi drop-off point before arriving with luggage.
From Lyon-Saint-Exupéry Airport, the Rhônexpress tram runs to Part-Dieu station in about 30 minutes; metro and tram connect from there.
The Lyon City Card (sold by the Lyon tourist office on Place Bellecour and online) bundles museum entry and public transport and can offset a central stay.
