A pedestrian street of 18th- and 19th-century houses in a former stream bed, now the city's favourite cafe and bar strip.
Tkalčićeva follows the course of the Medveščak stream that once divided Gradec from Kaptol and that was covered in the 1890s. Today the street holds dozens of bars, cafes and restaurants in narrow historic houses. The Grič Tunnel entrance and the Stone Stairs to the Upper Town lie at its western end. It is busiest on weekend evenings and especially on Saturday mornings, when locals gather for coffee ('špica').
