Payment is typically in cash, which adds to the risk for tourists, and tax refunds for foreign visitors are not generally available on informal purchases. Traders are active mainly on weekdays, roughly from 09:00 to 17:00 Monday to Saturday. The atmosphere is busy and business-like, with dealers and brokers in small groups, and it can feel intimidating for newcomers. Food is not sold on site, but the surrounding centre has cafes and street vendors. Visitors interested in emeralds may prefer reputable jewellery stores or museum-linked shops, using the plaza as a place to observe rather than to buy.
