Parque Acuatico Cafalandia, Melgar

Parque Acuatico Cafalandia is the water park inside the Cafam holiday complex in Melgar, Tolima, on the road to Carmen de Apicala, about 98 km southwest of Bogota by distance. Melgar bills itself as the city of pools, and Cafalandia is among its largest water parks. As an inland destination there is no sand or natural shoreline: the attraction is a set of treated, clear pools with slides, wave features and children's splash zones, laid out among shaded lawns and gardens. At roughly 330 metres above sea level, Melgar is hot, with daytime temperatures typically in the high twenties to low thirties Celsius, which is the reason it is the standard weekend swap of cold Andean drizzle for tropical heat for many bogotanos. The park is family-focused and sociable, with a holiday-resort feel rather than a surf or party scene. Younger children have dedicated splash areas, while older visitors head for the slides and larger pools. Amenities include changing rooms, lockers and showers, restaurants and poolside bars, lifeguards on duty, and an adjoining hotel and cabins, which allow overnight stays and make the park practical as a two-day trip. Shaded lawns provide relief from the sun between swims, and visitors should still bring sunscreen, hats and towels. Prices, hours and any restrictions on outside food should be confirmed through the official Cafam page before going, as they vary by season. Getting to Melgar takes 2.5 to 3 hours from Bogota. Coaches to Melgar or Ibague leave from the Terminal Sur, at roughly COP 25,000-35,000, while drivers follow the Via Bogota-Girardot through Fusagasuga on the Sumapaz road. Traffic is heavy on holiday weekends, particularly on Sunday evenings when residents return to the capital, so leaving early or staying overnight is wise. The town itself has numerous other pool complexes, restaurants and cafes for visitors who want to extend their stay.
