Hefang Street Self-Guided Food Walk

Hefang Street is a pedestrian shopping and snack street at the foot of Wushan Mountain in Hangzhou's Shangcheng District, and this self-guided walk covers its old-brand snack shops and teahouses without a guide or transport. The street preserves a Qing-dynasty streetscape lined with shopfronts selling traditional Hangzhou snacks, including Top Scholar's cake (Zhuang Yuan Gao), black sesame paste, eight-treasure porridge, and lotus root starch drinks. Individual snack items typically cost around ¥10 or less, while assembling a full walking meal from several stalls runs roughly ¥60 to ¥120. Because the route is self-guided, visitors set their own pace, stopping at whichever shopfronts draw their interest along the street. The walk is best treated as a grazing route rather than a single meal, sampling small portions across several vendors rather than a full sit-down dish at any one stop. Hefang Street is open year-round, and while daytime visits are quieter, evenings bring the busiest crowds and the fullest atmosphere as shop lanterns and street performers come out. No booking, guide, or transport is required, making it a flexible add-on to a day exploring nearby West Lake or the Southern Song Imperial Street area.
