Dadeng Shala Beach (Zhujiajian Golden Beach)

Dadeng Shala, often marketed as Zhujiajian's Golden Beach, is the largest and busiest stretch of sand on Zhujiajian Island in the Zhoushan Archipelago off the coast of Zhejiang. The beach is fine, pale-gold sand rather than pebble, and the water carries the typical East China Sea greenish-brown tint from sediment rather than tropical clarity. The bay is broad and gently curved, offering some shelter from open swell, and the gradient is shallow enough for wading well out at low tide. Summer weekends draw large domestic crowds, with a lively, family-and-group atmosphere rather than a party scene: children build sandcastles near the shallows while groups rent jet skis, banana boats, and parasailing runs further along the shore. Rows of rented sunbeds and umbrellas line the central section, backed by seafood grills, noodle stalls, and simple beach-facing restaurants serving Zhoushan's fresh catch. Showers and changing rooms are available near the main entrance, and a free public section exists at the northern end for visitors who prefer not to pay for loungers. The beach sits about two kilometres from Zhujiajian's main town, reached by crossing the Xiazhimen Bridge from Zhoushan Island, with local buses and taxis running from the town centre directly to the scenic area's car park. Because the archipelago faces the open sea, wind and swell can pick up quickly in typhoon season (July-September), and lifeguard coverage is concentrated around the main watersports zone rather than the full length of sand. Visitors travelling from Ningbo typically arrive by ferry to Zhoushan first, then continue by road across the bridge network onto Zhujiajian.
