From the deck, a telephoto lens compresses distant skyscrapers into a dense layered skyline shot, while a wide-angle lens from ground level near the lake includes the tower itself alongside the water and park trees. The best light comes in late afternoon moving into sunset, when low side light casts long shadows across the park and the sky behind the skyline takes on warm color; shooting from the deck at this hour also allows a second exposure once the city lights begin switching on below. Autumn and winter offer the clearest air quality and the longest visibility distance, since summer humidity and haze frequently reduce the skyline to a soft silhouette even in good light; a clear autumn evening can reveal buildings many kilometers distant. The observation deck charges an admission fee, typically in the range of 40-50 RMB, and access is by elevator, requiring no climbing. The deck can become crowded at peak sunset times on weekends, so arriving thirty minutes early secures a spot along the railing. Tripods are generally restricted on the deck itself due to space and safety around the railing, though monopods are often tolerated; drone use is not permitted this close to the tower's restricted airspace.
