Badaguan ('Eight Passes') is a low-density former foreign-concession quarter between Shinan District's No. 1 and No. 2 Bathing Beaches, its eight streets named after Great Wall passes and lined with roughly 200 villas built between the 1900s and 1930s in a mix of European national styles - Russian dachas, German half-timbering, British brick.

Tree-lined streets named after Great Wall passes, lined with early-20th-century foreign-concession villas in a mix of European styles; a favourite location for wedding and portrait photography, especially under the plane trees in autumn.

The best frames use the plane- and paulownia-tree canopy as a natural arch over the cobbled or asphalt lanes, with a single villa facade centred at the end of the street; Huayuan Road (Flower Lane) and Shanhaiguan Road, each planted with a different flowering or coloured tree species, give the strongest seasonal colour. Morning light filtering low through the canopy from the east gives dappled, side-lit facades from roughly 6:30-8:30AM before the sun rises above the tree line and flattens the light; overcast days work well for even facade exposures without harsh canopy shadows. Cherry and crabapple blossom in April-May, and maple and ginkgo turning in late October to mid-November, are the two peak windows; midsummer is green but hazy, and winter lanes are bare. Badaguan is one of Qingdao's most-visited photo and wedding-shoot locations and becomes busy with tour groups and bridal parties by mid-morning, particularly on weekends; arriving at opening or on a weekday morning is the only way to get empty lanes. There is a small entrance fee for the fenced villa-garden sections nearest the coast, though most of the tree-lined streets themselves are open public roads with no charge. Tripods are fine on the quiet lanes but should be kept clear of wedding-photography setups and private villa entrances; drones are discouraged near the villas, several of which now serve as government guesthouses.
