The Fangchuan Scenic Area, near Hunchun in Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture in far eastern Jilin province, is the only place in China where the borders of China, Russia and North Korea can be seen at once. A viewing tower on the Chinese side overlooks the lower Tumen River as it flows south toward the Sea of Japan, with Russia on the east bank and North Korea on the west.

From the viewing tower, the Tumen River flows to the Sea of Japan between Russia and North Korea, with the Russian rail bridge and farm plots in view.

The frame includes the river, the Russian rail bridge crossing toward North Korea, farm plots and low wooded hills, and on clear days the sea can be glimpsed in the distance. The composition is a wide landscape of three territories rather than a single dramatic subject, so it suits telephoto lenses that isolate details such as the bridge, border markers and river bends. Late afternoon is the best time, when the sun lowers behind the viewer to the west and side-lights the river and fields, giving warm colour and soft contrast; morning haze and sea fog can flatten the view. The season runs from May to October, when roads and the tower are open and foliage is green or turning in autumn. The area is a border zone, so visitors must carry a passport or valid identification and may need to pass through checkpoints, and photographers should not photograph military installations or border personnel. Rules change and should be confirmed locally before travelling. The tower and viewing areas can be busy with tour groups in summer, but the tower platform is large enough that a spot at the railing is usually obtainable, and tripods are generally permitted if they do not block other visitors. Scenic-area tickets are charged and vary by season, so current prices should be confirmed. Drones are not permitted in the border zone, and enforcement is strict. Binoculars are useful for distant details that are hard to see with the naked eye.
