Heaven Lake, or Tianchi, is the crater lake at the summit of Changbai Mountain in Antu County, Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture, on the border between Jilin province and North Korea. The lake sits at roughly 2,190 metres above sea level and is ringed by around sixteen jagged volcanic peaks that rise above the water, and the principal photographic frame is the dark blue water with the rim peaks reflected or wreathed in drifting cloud.

The crater lake framed by jagged peaks, often swirling with cloud. Clear windows are brief and unpredictable, but the reward is among the best vistas in northeast China.

From the North Slope viewpoint on the Chinese side, the lake is seen from above, so the composition leans on the sweep of the crater wall, the scree slopes and the sky. Light direction depends on the viewing position, but morning light between about 07:00 and 09:00 usually gives the clearest air before cloud builds, and the low sun rakes across the western rim to add relief. The mountain is famous for fast-changing weather, and clear windows are often brief; patience matters, as mist can lift for a few minutes and then close again. The summit road is generally open only from about mid June to mid September, and access can be closed on the day by wind, snow or fog, so the season window is narrow and weather-dependent. Crowds are heavy at midday in July and August, when tour groups arrive in shuttle buses and jeeps; visitors who reach the summit early in the day have the best chance of space at the main viewing area. The viewpoint is a fenced platform at the end of a short climb or drive, so tripods are possible but usually limited by crowd and wind. Entry requires tickets for the scenic area and transport, and prices change by season, so current fees should be confirmed locally. Drones are not permitted in the protected national nature reserve and border zone, and rules are enforced. Temperatures at the rim can be near freezing even in summer, so warm layers are advisable.
