Wangtian'e Volcanic Crater Ridge Walk

The Wangtian'e Volcanic Crater Ridge Walk is located in the Wangtian'e Scenic Area in Wangqing County, Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture, Jilin Province. The area contains a volcanic crater in the Yanbian highlands, with a rim path above a crater lake and views over forested ranges. It is remote and far less visited than Heaven Lake on Changbai Mountain, which gives it a quiet character. There is no public transport to the gate, so a taxi or rental car is required, and the drive from Wangqing County town takes about 1.5 hours. Entry costs about CNY 60-100, and visitors should confirm the price and opening locally. The walk covers about 5 km return with around 300 m of elevation gain and takes about 3 hours, which rates it moderate. The surface is a mix of forest path, rock and volcanic soil, and sections near the rim are exposed to wind. Shade is available in the lower forest, while the ridge itself is open. The main landmarks are the crater rim, the lake inside the crater and the wide views over forested ridges. Visitors should turn around at the rim viewpoint and avoid wandering off the marked path, since navigation can be harder in dense forest. Water should be carried from town, and refuge huts are not available, so visitors rely on their own gear and the small facilities near the gate. Mobile signal can be patchy, so an offline map is advisable. Winter brings heavy snow that makes the area difficult to reach, so June to September is the usual season. Insects and sudden weather changes are the main hazards in summer, and a light rain layer is helpful.
