Yangshuo Karst Countryside (from Guilin)

Yangshuo sits roughly 65km south of Guilin in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, reached in about 1.5 hours by public bus from Guilin Qintan Bus Station (¥25-30) or in 20 minutes by high-speed rail from Guilin North to Yangshuo West, followed by a short taxi into town. Most visitors depart Guilin by mid-morning to arrive with a full afternoon in Yangshuo. The town itself centers on West Street, a pedestrian strip of shops, cafes, and bars set against a backdrop of limestone karst peaks, while the surrounding countryside offers the Yulong River for bamboo rafting, the Ten-Mile Gallery for cycling past rice paddies and villages, and Moon Hill, a karst formation with a natural arch reachable via a steep but short stair climb. A typical day starts with the bus or train into Yangshuo, a midday walk or bicycle rental along the Yulong River or Ten-Mile Gallery route, lunch at a riverside noodle stall or West Street restaurant serving Guilin rice noodles or beer fish, and an afternoon bamboo raft ride or Moon Hill climb before the return trip to Guilin in the early evening. The best season runs from April through October, when the countryside is green and river levels support rafting; spring and autumn avoid the summer heat and the winter's occasional cool mist. Arriving early in the day helps avoid the midday crowds that build around West Street and the main raft docks by early afternoon.
