Detian Waterfall (Detian Pubu)

Detian Waterfall spans the border between Daxin County in Guangxi and Vietnam's Ban Gioc district, formed where the Guichun River drops over a series of limestone tiers into a wide, turquoise pool set among rice paddies and karst hills, making it the largest transnational waterfall in Asia. Bamboo rafts operated on the Chinese side ferry visitors close to the base of the main cascade, close enough to feel the spray, while a marked border post within the scenic area allows travelers to stand at the edge of both countries and take photographs of the marker itself. The wider scenic area includes viewing platforms at several elevations, a smaller adjacent waterfall known as Banyue, and walking paths along the river through farmland shared informally by communities on both sides of the border. Water volume peaks from June through September following the summer rains, when the falls are at their fullest and most photogenic, while the dry winter months show a thinner, more delicate cascade. Because Detian sits roughly three hours by road from Nanning, most visitors treat it as a full-day trip, departing early to allow time at the falls before the return drive.
