Shenzhen Bay Park

Shenzhen Bay Park runs along the Nanshan District waterfront on Binhai Avenue, a long landscaped strip facing the bay toward Hong Kong's New Territories on the opposite shore. The park is built for walking, cycling, and running, with a dedicated boardwalk that hugs the water's edge, separate cycling and pedestrian lanes, and stretches of mangrove and wetland habitat that attract herons and other waterbirds, particularly in the section near the bird-watching platforms. Cyclists and joggers use the park daily, and rental bikes are available at several points along the route. A typical visit covers one to two hours of walking or cycling a section of the roughly 13-kilometer waterfront, with the stretch near Houhai offering the clearest bay views. Sunset is the signature time to visit, when the sun drops behind the hills across the bay and the skyline of high-rises along Houhai lights up against the darkening water, drawing photographers to the open lawns and boardwalk railings. Weekday mornings are quiet and favored by regular exercisers, while weekend evenings bring families, cyclists, and kite flyers in much larger numbers. The park has no admission and no gates, so access points are spread along its length; the section nearest Houhai metro station is the most convenient starting point for a short visit.
