Yuexiu Park and Zhenhai Tower (Guangzhou Museum)

Yuexiu Park spreads across wooded hills in Yuexiu District and is Guangzhou's largest public park, home to the Five Rams Statue, a granite sculpture illustrating the city's founding legend, several lakes used for paddle boating, and Zhenhai Tower, a five-story tower first built in 1380 during the early Ming dynasty as part of the old city wall's defenses. The tower now houses the historical wing of the Guangzhou Museum, its floors arranged chronologically from the region's prehistoric and Nanyue Kingdom origins through the Qing dynasty trade era and into the twentieth century, with cannons and remnants of the old city wall still visible on the surrounding terrace. Visitors typically enter the park from one of several gates, walk past the Five Rams Statue and lakes, then climb to Zhenhai Tower for the museum galleries and a rooftop terrace view over the park and northern downtown skyline. A visit combining the park grounds and museum galleries takes about two to three hours. The clearest photo vantage points are the plaza in front of the Five Rams Statue and the Zhenhai Tower rooftop terrace, which looks out over the park's lakes toward the city beyond. The park is busiest in the early morning with local residents exercising and again in the afternoon with families and tour groups, so a mid-morning visit balances a lively but not overcrowded atmosphere with reasonable museum crowd levels.
