Nanshan One Tree View (Yikeshu Viewpoint)

Nanshan One Tree View, also called Yikeshu Viewpoint, sits on Longhuang Avenue within the Nanshan Scenic Area in Nan'an District on the hills across the Yangtze River from downtown Chongqing. Named for a large tree that once stood at the site, the viewpoint is a series of tiered terraces cut into the hillside, giving an unobstructed panorama over the Yangtze River, the Yuzhong peninsula and the dense high-rise skyline of central Chongqing spread out below. Visitors typically arrive by taxi or bus up Nanshan Road, pass through the ticket gate, and walk a short distance to the main terrace, where railings and slightly elevated platforms allow uncrowded photography even when the site is busy. A visit lasts about an hour to ninety minutes, mostly spent taking in the view, photographing the skyline, and browsing the small souvenir and snack stalls near the entrance. The single best vantage point is the main upper terrace facing north across the river, which captures the full sweep of the peninsula skyline in one frame; a slightly lower terrace offers an alternative angle with foreground trees. The site draws its largest crowds in the evening between 7:00 and 10:00PM, when the downtown skyline lights up and the terraces fill with visitors and tripod photographers, making it one of the most popular night-view spots in Chongqing; arriving slightly before sunset secures a good position for both the transition from daylight to night lighting.
