Radimlja Necropolis lies on a hillside near Stolac, in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and holds 133 medieval tombstones known as stećci, dating mainly from the 14th and 15th centuries. The site is among the best-known stećak cemeteries in the region and forms part of the UNESCO World Heritage listing for Stećci Medieval Tombstones Graveyards, inscribed in 2016 with sites in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro and Serbia. The large limestone blocks take shapes such as slabs, chests and gabled forms, and many are decorated with carved reliefs. Motifs include crescent moons, spirals, hunting scenes, knights on horseback, hands raised in greeting and stylised vines. The most famous monument shows a figure standing with an arm raised, thought to be associated with the Miloradović family. Visitors walk along a short path among the stones, helped by information boards in Bosnian and English. The setting is a quiet meadow with views toward the surrounding hills, and the stones are often covered in lichen, giving a timeless atmosphere. A visit takes about 45 minutes. A small fee of about BAM 2-5 may be charged, and the site is open in daylight hours. Light is best in the morning or late afternoon, when low sun brings out the carvings in relief. The necropolis is rarely crowded, with only occasional tour groups. Stolac itself is worth a short stop for its old town, the Vidoški tower and the Begovina complex. The necropolis is about 45 minutes by car from Mostar, or reachable by bus to Stolac followed by a taxi of roughly 6 km. It combines easily with Počitelj and Blagaj on a southern Herzegovina day trip. Visitors should avoid climbing on the tombstones.
