Mukambi Safari Lodge

Mukambi Safari Lodge sits on the bank of the Kafue River within Kafue National Park, Zambia's largest protected area, approximately 170 km from Lusaka by road via the Nalusanga Gate. The lodge occupies a prime waterfront position at a wide meander where hippo pods are visible from the main deck through most of the year and elephant come to drink at the bank in the late afternoon. The Nalusanga Gate — one of Kafue's principal entry points — is a short drive away, giving access to the park's central sector game viewing circuits and the surrounding miombo woodland and seasonal pans. Kafue is substantially less crowded than South Luangwa and offers more varied terrain, which the lodge uses as a selling point for guests wanting an off-the-beaten-track Zambia experience.

Accommodation spans several configurations across riverside tented chalets on elevated platforms, larger standard chalets for families, and a bush villa with a private plunge pool at the premium tier. All units include ceiling fans, mosquito netting, and outdoor seating oriented toward the bush or the Kafue River. The main lodge building is a large open-sided thatched structure housing the dining area, bar, and main deck, forming the architectural and social core of the property with river views from every seat.

Activities span twice-daily game drives in open vehicles, Kafue River sunset boat cruises, and tiger fish and bream fishing. Walking safaris with an armed ranger are available on request. The restaurant produces substantial breakfasts, packed lunches for game drives, and three-course dinners; dietary requirements are managed with advance notice. Staff are consistently well-reviewed for warmth and knowledge of Kafue's wildlife seasons and lesser-known areas within the park. The lodge promotes competitive mid-range pricing as a deliberate alternative to the higher costs of South Luangwa and Lower Zambezi properties at equivalent quality.
