Shaherezada Guesthouse Khiva

Shaherezada Guesthouse operates from a traditional courtyard house inside Itchan Kala, the UNESCO-listed walled city of Khiva. The property stands in the dense historic fabric of the inner city, surrounded by earthen-walled lanes that date back centuries. The Islam Khoja Minaret — the tallest in Khiva — and the tiled facades of the Pakhlavan Mahmud Mausoleum are within a five-minute walk.

The guesthouse follows the classic Khorezm courtyard layout, with rooms arranged around a central outdoor space planted with shade trees and seasonal flowers. The courtyard is the social heart of the property: guests eat breakfast here at shared tables beneath a wooden iwan canopy, and in the evenings it becomes a quiet spot for tea and conversation. Rooms are modest in size but well-maintained, with local hand-loomed textiles, kilim-style floor coverings, and simple wooden furniture. The aesthetic is traditional without being self-consciously rustic.

Meals are a genuine strength of the guesthouse. The family kitchen produces traditional Uzbek food using local produce: thin samsa pastries, manty dumplings, vegetable soups, and on request, full plov. Breakfast is included in all room rates and is typically the most generous morning spread available at comparable Khiva guesthouses. Dinners can be arranged with advance notice.

The family owners, who live on the property, speak reasonable English and can direct guests to less-visited corners of Itchan Kala, recommend honest local guides, and help with onward travel to Bukhara or Tashkent. There is no pool, gym, or spa. The guesthouse attracts independent travellers, couples, and small-group visitors who want direct engagement with local culture rather than a hotel-chain experience.
