The Wort Hotel

The Wort Hotel stands at the corner of Broadway Avenue and Glenwood Street in downtown Jackson, a half-block from the elk-antler entry of Jackson Town Square. Restaurants, galleries, and the National Museum of Wildlife Art are within walking distance, and the Town Square summer rodeo and winter ice skating are reachable on foot. Charles and John Wort opened the original hotel in 1941; a 1980 fire destroyed that structure, and the current building was reconstructed with a faithful brick facade and reopened in 1981 as a family-owned independent property. The Silver Dollar Bar on the premises contains 2,032 uncirculated 1921 Morgan silver dollars inlaid into the horseshoe-shaped counter, a fixture since the 1981 reopening that draws visitors as much as overnight guests. The 59 rooms and suites are furnished in a Western-contemporary style with hand-crafted Wyoming furniture, Native American textile accents, and archival photographs documenting the hotel's history. Room categories span Standard Kings, Deluxe Kings, and Junior Suites; the Deluxe Kings offer the most usable space at the town-center location. Complimentary breakfast is served each morning in a dining area adjacent to the lobby. The Silver Dollar Grill serves lunch and dinner with Wyoming-sourced steaks, game, and seasonal specials. A fitness center and full concierge desk provide practical support; the hotel does not have a pool or spa. Pet-friendly rooms are available in the Standard King category. The Wort is one of the few independently owned, historically rooted properties in Jackson at a price point well below the resort hotels in Teton Village, making it a strong base for travelers centered on the town itself — dining, galleries, and summer rodeos.
