Multnomah Whiskey Library is one of the most distinctive drinking establishments in the Pacific Northwest, located at 1124 SW Alder St near the Pearl District in Portland, Oregon. The bar takes its library concept literally: floor-to-ceiling shelving lined with more than 1,500 bottles of whiskey from around the world creates a visual spectacle that functions simultaneously as decor and working inventory. Rolling ladders allow bartenders to access the highest shelves, reinforcing the bibliophilic atmosphere throughout the two-story room. The interior is formal but warm — leather seating, rich dark wood tones, and carefully controlled lighting produce an old-world club quality that is genuinely unique in Portland.

The whiskey collection spans American bourbon and rye, Scotch single malts from all major Scottish regions, Japanese expressions, Irish whiskeys, and a substantial holding of rare and allocated bottles unavailable elsewhere in the city. Bartenders function as expert guides to the collection, typically asking thoughtful questions to match guests with bottles suited to their palate.
