The Knife & Fork Inn is one of Atlantic City's most storied dining institutions, occupying a landmark Art Nouveau building at the corner of Atlantic and Pacific Avenues since 1912. Founded originally as a private club where prominent Atlantic City figures gathered for steaks and oysters, the restaurant has operated through Prohibition, the casino era, and multiple cycles of the city's fortune, emerging as a consistent anchor for serious dining in New Jersey's Shore resort. The menu leans heavily into dry-aged prime beef — the USDA Dry-Aged Porterhouse at 32 ounces is the centrepiece preparation and has become emblematic of the inn's identity — alongside whole-fish preparations such as Branzino that balance the steak house character with a seafood sensibility. The building itself is as much a draw as the food: the exterior features ornate brickwork and the distinctive corner profile that has made it one of Atlantic City's most photographed historic structures. The interior maintains period details including original architectural elements, dark wood, and the quiet formality of a supper club from another era. Dinner service runs daily from 5pm. The Knife & Fork is an independent restaurant separate from the casino hotel dining circuit, offering a very different experience from the resort-embedded venues a few blocks away on the Boardwalk.
