East Potomac Park, known to most locals as Hains Point, is a narrow peninsula at Ohio Drive SW in Washington, DC, lying between the Potomac River and the Washington Channel. It is not a swimming beach, and swimming in the river is not permitted. The shoreline is mostly a stone and riprap edge with grassy banks, and the water is brown, tidal river water.

What the park provides is open space: a loop road around the peninsula, wide lawns, rows of cherry trees and expansive views of the river, Reagan National Airport and the Virginia shore.

The setting is flat and exposed to wind off the river, with little shade. The park is long and thin, so it feels open and quiet compared with the Mall, especially on weekdays. Cyclists and runners favour the waterfront loop, which is about 4.5 miles around, and anglers line the seawall along both sides. Picnic areas are scattered along the edge, and the sculpture known as The Awakening, a giant figure rising from the ground, was a long-time attraction near the southern tip. The mood is relaxed and local, with families, golfers and fishermen far outnumbering tourists.

Facilities include East Potomac Golf Links, a public course with a mini-golf course and driving range, along with a seasonal public pool near the park entrance. Restrooms are limited, and there are few food options on the peninsula, so visitors usually bring their own supplies. There are no lifeguards on the river because swimming is not allowed.

Transit access is limited. The nearest Metro stop is Smithsonian on the Blue, Orange and Silver lines, followed by a Capital Bikeshare ride or a long walk, so a car or bicycle is the practical choice. Parking is free along the park roads. The park lies about 2.5 miles from the National Mall and is commonly paired with a visit to the Tidal Basin by bike.
