Clifton's Republic at 648 S Broadway in Downtown Los Angeles occupies a historic 1931 building that served as a cafeteria for much of the 20th century before being transformed into one of DTLA's most theatrical multi-level nightlife destinations. The building underwent a meticulous multi-year restoration and reopened as a bar and entertainment complex, preserving the original Gothic Revival architecture while converting the interior into a layered drinking environment unlike anything else in Los Angeles.

The venue spans four floors, each with a distinct character. The ground floor features a casual bar and cafe area accessible throughout operating hours. Descending to the basement reveals a genuine speakeasy atmosphere: dim lighting, intimate banquette seating, and a cocktail program focused on Prohibition-era classics. The upper floors house a full cocktail bar decorated with taxidermied animals, antique furnishings, and Gothic architectural details that create a theatrical, slightly fantastical setting. A rooftop space operates seasonally, offering views of the surrounding DTLA skyline.

The cocktail program is serious across all levels. Drinks are priced $15–20 and draw on the building's theatrical identity, ranging from Prohibition-era classics in the basement to house originals with Gothic and vintage-Americana themes in the upper bars. The venue also pours a selection of craft beers and California wines. Food service is available from a kitchen offering shareable plates and bar snacks during operating hours.

Clifton's Republic operates Monday through Thursday from 5pm to 2am, opening at noon on Friday through Sunday. The building's unique character attracts a diverse Downtown Los Angeles crowd: creative workers, hotel guests, live music attendees, and cocktail enthusiasts who have heard about the venue's reputation.
