Konya Hostel (Backpacker)

Konya Hostel is a purpose-built backpacker facility on Şems-i Tebrizi Caddesi in the Aziziye quarter of Karatay, approximately 200 metres from the Mevlana Museum entrance. The street is named after Shams of Tabriz, the spiritual companion of Jalal ad-Din Rumi, and the neighbourhood is the cultural core of Konya's old town, lined with teahouses, carpet shops, and lokantalar (traditional Turkish lunch restaurants). The Konya Metro T line tram stop is under five minutes on foot, providing direct public-transit links across the city.

The hostel operates from a two-storey building with a social-first layout: a common lounge with cushioned seating occupies the ground floor alongside the shared kitchen, which has a hob, kettle, and basic utensils for self-catering. Upper floors contain two dormitory rooms — a four-bed and an eight-bed — and one private double room. Dormitory beds include individual reading lights and power sockets; a personal locker is provided for each bed. Shared bathrooms are gender-separated and cleaned twice daily.

Wi-Fi is free and covers all areas including the outdoor yard at the rear, which functions as a common gathering space in warm weather. There is no restaurant on site, but the surrounding neighbourhood provides abundant cheap eating within a two-minute walk, including the famous Konya pide (flatbread) bakeries along the bazaar streets. Breakfast supplies are typically stocked in the kitchen for communal use.

The hostel is best suited to solo backpackers, students, and budget travellers making the pilgrimage to the Mevlana shrine or passing through Konya on the overland Asia–Europe route. The owner or a staff member is generally present to advise on local transport, the weekly Sema ceremony viewing, and onward travel arrangements to Cappadocia.
