Gölcük Plateau and Lake

Gölcük Plateau and Lake (Gölcük Yaylası ve Gölcük Gölü), situated approximately 12 kilometres east of Isparta city at an altitude of around 1,200 metres, is the city's most accessible upland escape. The plateau encompasses a small natural lake surrounded by oak and pine forest, with open meadows and picnic grounds extending along the shore. The lake itself is a shallow, weed-fringed tectonic depression set within forested uplands on the western slopes of the Davraz massif. On weekdays, Gölcük is largely visited by walkers, families, and local residents seeking cool air; on summer weekends it fills substantially with day-trippers from Isparta city. The main picnic area extends along the northern and eastern shores of the lake, with concrete tables, tea houses, and small food vendors supplying gözleme, corn, and cold drinks. A walking trail circles the lake in approximately 45 minutes, passing through sections of oak and pine forest with periodic lake views. For a longer outing, forest tracks extend northward from the plateau into the oak woodland, reaching viewpoints over the Isparta valley and, on clear days, toward the plain below. The trees surrounding the lake provide moderate autumn colour in October when oak foliage turns gold and russet. Early morning visits in spring and early summer produce mist over the lake surface, a striking sight against the wooded hills. The drive from Isparta takes approximately 20 minutes via the Gölcük Yolu road; taxis also run there and parking is available at the entrance where a small fee is charged.
