Bilecik is a small provincial city in northwest Turkey and the birthplace of the Ottoman Empire. Nestled among forested hills and deep river valleys in the Marmara region, it holds extraordinary historical significance — it was here that Osman I established the Ottoman state in 1299, and nearby Söğüt district is home to the tomb of his father Ertuğrul Gazi. The city blends Ottoman heritage with natural landscapes of canyons, waterfalls, and highland plateaus.
Bilecik experiences a humid continental climate (Köppen Dfa) with hot, dry summers and cold, snowy winters. Located at approximately 540 m elevation in northwest Turkey, it receives 569 mm annual rainfall. Spring (April–June) and early autumn (September–October) offer the most pleasant conditions for tourism. Summers are warm and dry; winters can bring significant snow.
