Bilecik is a small provincial city in northwest Turkey and the birthplace of the Ottoman Empire. Nestled among forested hills and deep river valleys in the Marmara region, it holds extraordinary historical significance — it was here that Osman I established the Ottoman state in 1299, and nearby Söğüt district is home to the tomb of his father Ertuğrul Gazi. The city blends Ottoman heritage with natural landscapes of canyons, waterfalls, and highland plateaus.
Bilecik is a provincial city with no commercial airport. Intercity travel is served primarily by bus. The city center is compact and walkable; minibuses (dolmuş) connect city districts and surrounding towns. Taxis are metered and reliable. A rental car from Bursa or Eskişehir is highly recommended for exploring the province's natural sites and villages.

Transport tips
Travel smarter, not harder.
The otogar (bus terminal) is 1 km south of city center; a dolmuş or short taxi covers the gap (~30–50 TRY)
Buy intercity bus tickets in advance online at obilet.com or otobus.com; same-day tickets usually available but peak days sell out
For Söğüt, the dolmuş is cheapest; departures roughly every 1–2 hours from otogar
Taxis are metered; insist on meter use if driver hesitates
Rental cars from Bursa (Enterprise, Avis at Yenişehir Airport) offer the most flexibility for exploring the province
There is no train service to Bilecik center; nearest TCDD rail station is Bilecik Tren İstasyonu (3 km from center) on the Istanbul–Ankara line but most intercity travelers use buses
