Pelitözü Pond Swimming Area

Pelitözü Pond (Pelitözü Göleti) is a small freshwater reservoir located approximately 7 km north of Bilecik city center in northwestern Turkey. Set among gentle hills and shaded by a belt of pine and mixed woodland, the pond draws local families from Bilecik throughout the warm months, functioning as the city's nearest informal swimming and picnic destination.

The water surface is calm and shallow near the banks, making it suitable for non-swimmers and young children who want to wade. There is no sandy beach; visitors settle on grassy, gently sloping banks that run along much of the shoreline. The shade provided by surrounding pine trees keeps the site comfortable even on hot August afternoons, and grassy picnic areas are scattered along the accessible bank sections.

Amenities are limited but adequate for a half-day outing. There are no changing rooms, lifeguards, or permanent food vendors on-site, so visitors are expected to bring their own supplies. Fishing is permitted in designated parts of the pond, and the combination of angling and casual swimming makes it a popular spot for mixed-purpose family visits. A valid Turkish fishing licence is required for fishing.

Access from Bilecik center is straightforward. A taxi journey costs approximately 80–100 Turkish lira one-way and takes around 15 minutes heading north from the city. Cyclists can follow the road north from the center, though the route includes some moderate gradient sections. There is no scheduled public bus service to the pond, making private or hired transport the practical option.

The best season runs from June through September, when daytime temperatures in the Bilecik region reach 25–35°C. Weekend afternoons in July and August attract the largest numbers of local visitors, so a weekday morning visit offers a quieter experience. The surrounding landscape provides a pleasant backdrop for photography, with the tree-lined banks reflecting in the still water on calm mornings.
