Ağrı is an eastern Anatolian province dominated by the iconic silhouette of Mount Ararat (Ağrı Dağı), Turkey's highest peak at 5,137 m and the legendary resting place of Noah's Ark. The district town of Doğubayazıt serves as the main tourism hub, home to the breathtaking İshak Paşa Sarayı palace, while the province spreads across high plateau, Urartian ruins, volcanic landscapes, and a rugged frontier with Iran and Armenia.
Ağrı province has a continental highland climate with extreme seasonal variation. Summers (June–August) are short and warm (20–32°C in the valley), with cool nights (5–12°C at higher elevations). Winters (December–March) are severe, with temperatures reaching −20°C and heavy snowfall closing mountain roads. Spring (April–May) is muddy and unpredictable; autumn (September–October) brings rapidly cooling temperatures and early snow above 3,000 m. Precipitation is modest (350–450 mm/year) but snowfall in winter is heavy and long-lasting.
