Lower Düden Waterfall from Sea

The Lower Düden Waterfall, located approximately 12 kilometres east of central Antalya along the Turkish Mediterranean coast, is one of the world's rare waterfalls that plunges directly into the sea. The falls drop around 40 metres over a limestone cliff face into the Mediterranean below, fed by the Düden River and flowing most powerfully in spring (March through May) when snowmelt swells the volume. Two distinct photographic vantages exist: a boat-level view from the sea, and a cliff-top platform view from the adjacent municipal park. From a tour boat, the viewer gains a perspective impossible from land — the full height of the falls, the white cascade against a dark cliff face, and the rainbow spray rising where water meets sea. Morning light is favorable for the boat approach: the cliff faces west, meaning boats arriving from the open Mediterranean in the morning see the falls with side-light from above rather than harsh backlight. The boat typically approaches within 20 to 30 metres of the waterfall base, close enough to feel the spray, which requires protective measures for camera equipment, particularly at high water in spring. A second photographic vantage exists from the cliff-top Düden Şelalesi Parkı, a free municipal park with a fenced viewing platform looking directly down and slightly north at the point where the river meets the cliff edge. This elevated angle captures the river rushing toward the drop with the arc of spray far below against the sea surface. Morning light illuminates the cliff and falls from behind the cliff-top photographer's position in a favorable arrangement. The park is open year-round and accessible by public bus or taxi from central Antalya, with paved paths and railings at the main viewpoint. The park is busiest on weekends and during summer afternoons when families and day-trippers gather. No special photography permits are required from either location. A polarising filter is useful from the cliff top to reduce glare on the water surface below and sharpen the distinction between the white cascade and the blue sea.
