Lower Düden Waterfalls (Lara Falls)

The Lower Düden Waterfalls, known locally as Lara Şelalesi, form one of the Mediterranean's most dramatic natural spectacles: a single cascade of approximately 40 meters that plunges directly from a clifftop into the sea, visible from both land and water. Located in the Lara neighborhood of Muratpaşa district on the eastern outskirts of Antalya, the falls are the concluding point of the Düden River's journey from the Taurus Mountains to the coast. From land, a viewing platform and park perch atop the cliff, offering a direct view down onto the white cascade and the turquoise sea below. The contrast between the orange-tinged limestone cliffs, the white water, and the deep blue of the Mediterranean creates a striking composition particularly popular with photographers. Access on foot from the park above is free and takes only a few minutes from the main road. From the sea, a fleet of sightseeing and charter boats departs from Antalya's Roman harbor to cruise the coastline, passing directly beneath the falls and into the sea cave that forms below the cascade. Boat passengers feel the mist from the waterfall as the vessel passes underneath. The boat tours typically last one to two hours and cover additional sections of the coastal cliffs. The falls are most voluminous in spring and early summer, and the effect from below is most powerful in the morning when the sun hits the spray. The park area at the top has no admission charge and remains open continuously, while boat tours are available during daylight hours from Antalya harbor.
