Düden Waterfalls (Upper)

The Upper Düden Waterfalls, located in the Varsak neighborhood of Kepez District about 12 kilometers northeast of central Antalya, form one of the region's most accessible natural attractions. The Düden River emerges from a series of limestone caverns and descends through a tree-lined gorge before the main cascade tumbles into a wide pool below. The park surrounding the falls is well maintained, with paved paths, benches, and a garden setting that makes it a popular destination for Antalya residents as well as tourists. The most distinctive feature of the Upper Düden falls is the cave passage that runs behind the main curtain of water, allowing visitors to walk through a short tunnel and emerge on a small platform directly behind the falling water. The sensation of standing behind the cascade with the sunlight filtering through the white curtain is one of the highlights of the visit. The cave passage is lit but becomes slippery, so careful footing is required. The park contains secondary cascades and smaller streams that feed into the main gorge, and the lush vegetation including willows, poplars, and Mediterranean scrub creates a pleasant contrast to the arid terrain surrounding Antalya. A small café operates near the main viewing area. The waterfall is most impressive in spring when snowmelt from the Taurus Mountains increases the river's volume significantly; in late summer the flow can be reduced. Visiting in the morning ensures the sun illuminates the mist above the falls. Families with children enjoy the picnic areas within the park grounds. The site is reachable by local bus from central Antalya and has a modest entrance fee. A typical visit of one to two hours is sufficient to explore the main falls, the cave passage, and the surrounding park paths.
