Hazeranlar Konağı Ethnography Museum

The Hazeranlar Konağı Ethnography Museum occupies the restored 1865 Ottoman timber mansion on the Yalıboyu waterfront in Amasya and presents the domestic life of prosperous Ottoman provincial households through a suite of furnished period rooms. The building was constructed for Hazeran Hanım, daughter of a local notable, and its three-storey plan incorporates the selamlık (men's reception rooms) on the ground floor and the haremlik (women's quarters) above, with a projecting cumba (cantilevered bay) overlooking the Yeşilırmak River on the upper level. Each room has been furnished with period-appropriate items: the reception room (kâşane) on the upper floor displays a carved cedarwood divan, embroidered cushion covers, and an ornate copper tray table; the bedroom quarters include traditional trousseau chests, hand-embroidered textiles, and brass household implements. The kitchen section illustrates traditional food preparation with ceramic vessels, copper cooking pots, and examples of Amasya's preserving traditions. A section on traditional costume presents regional dress for men and women, featuring the characteristic saz-leaf embroidery motif of the Amasya style. The mansion was restored by the Amasya Special Provincial Administration in the 1980s, and additional conservation work was carried out on the painted ceiling panels between 2015 and 2017.
