Adıyaman is a province in Southeastern Anatolia, Turkey, set in the upper Euphrates basin between the Taurus foothills and the Mesopotamian plains. It is best known as the gateway to Mount Nemrut (Nemrut Dağı), the UNESCO-listed mountaintop sanctuary where colossal stone heads guard the 1st-century-BC tomb of King Antiochus I of Commagene. The province also holds Roman bridges, royal tumuli, and rock-cut ancient cities, alongside a distinctive cuisine that includes the local çiğ köfte and Adıyaman tava.

Adıyaman sits in Southeastern Anatolia and is best reached by air via Adıyaman Airport (ADF), with daily flights to Istanbul and Ankara, or by intercity bus from regional hubs such as Gaziantep, Şanlıurfa, Malatya and Diyarbakır. Within the province the network relies on dolmuş (shared minibuses) to Kahta - the base for Mount Nemrut - and Gölbaşı, supplemented by taxis. Because the famous Commagene sites are scattered across rural Kahta district, a rental car or an organised minibus tour is the most efficient way to see them. Following the February 2023 earthquakes, the airport, otogar and main roads are operating normally in 2026, though some city neighbourhoods remain under reconstruction.

Adıyaman Airport (ADF) is about 20 km southwest of the city centre - HAVAŞ-style shuttles and taxis meet flights
For Mount Nemrut, take a dolmuş from Adıyaman otogar to Kahta (about 55 km, roughly 1 hour), then a local minibus, taxi or tour vehicle up to the summit park
Dolmuş to Kahta run roughly every 30-45 minutes from around 07:00 until about 21:30 from the Adıyaman minibus terminal
The Mount Nemrut summit road is open in the warmer months (roughly April-October) and can close after snow in winter - check conditions before setting out
A rental car is strongly recommended for the full Commagene circuit, as public transport does not link Cendere Bridge, Arsameia and Karakuş directly
The nearest mainline railway runs via Malatya (about 97 km north); there is no fast intercity train into Adıyaman itself
Carry Turkish lira in cash for dolmuş, village taxis and small-town fuel stops, as card payment is not universal in rural areas
