The flagship attraction of Adıyaman and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987, Mount Nemrut rises to around 2,134 metres and crowns the summit with the tomb-sanctuary built by King Antiochus I of Commagene in the 1st century BC. Colossal seated statues of gods, eagles and lions, their toppled heads scattered across the East and West Terraces, surround a man-made tumulus of crushed rock. Visitors climb for sunrise or sunset, when low light floods the stone heads and the surrounding Taurus peaks.

Tips for visiting
- From the upper car park it is a 600-700 m uphill walk on a stone path to the terraces; bring warm layers as the summit is cold even in summer
- The Museum Pass Türkiye covers entry and is worth it if combining with other Commagene sites
- Karadut village, about 12 km below the summit, has the closest guesthouses for a pre-dawn start
