Gaziantep

Gaziantep lies approximately 220 km east of Adana in Gaziantep Province, making it the most distant and demanding destination on this list — the journey by intercity coach takes 3 to 3.25 hours each way from Adana's otogar. An early morning departure (typically the 07:00–08:00 service) is essential to arrive by 10:30 and have 5–6 useful hours in the city. By car the drive is similar via the O-52 motorway and D400. Coach tickets are bookable through obilet.com or at the otogar and should be reserved in advance for early services. An overnight stay is a worthwhile alternative for those who want to explore the city without the long-day constraint.

Gaziantep holds UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy status, and its food culture is the defining reason to make the trip. The city is the global capital of baklava and a major producer of pistachios; its restaurant cooking is widely regarded as among the finest in Turkey. Before the food, however, the Zeugma Mosaic Museum demands the morning: one of the largest mosaic museums in the world, it houses an extraordinary collection of Roman floor mosaics rescued from the ancient city of Zeugma before the Birecik Dam flooded the site. The celebrated 'Gypsy Girl' (Çingene Kızı) mosaic is the centrepiece. Allow two to three hours for the museum alone.

After the museum, the compact old city is walkable in an afternoon. The restored Bakırcılar Çarşısı (Coppersmith Bazaar) and the Covered Bazaar sit at the heart of the old quarter, still active with craftsmen and spice sellers. Gaziantep Castle overlooks the bazaar area and offers panoramic city views. The city's katmer — a layered pastry with clotted cream and pistachios — is the traditional breakfast; baklava from long-established shops such as İmam Çağdaş in the old bazaar is the essential afternoon treat. The last coaches back to Adana typically depart around 17:00–19:00.
