Auberge de Jeunesse de Tunis occupies a traditional urban building on Rue Sainte Beuve in central Tunis, within the administrative and cultural core of the capital. The medina's main gateway, Bab el Bhar (Porte de France), is roughly 800 metres on foot, placing the Great Mosque of Tunis (Zitouna) and the main souk lanes within a 15-minute walk. Habib Bourguiba Avenue — the city's main commercial boulevard — begins just a few minutes from the hostel's door.

The building retains the character of a mid-century urban guesthouse: tiled corridors, whitewashed walls, and a rooftop terrace that frames views over the surrounding roofscape toward the medina minarets. Dormitory beds are the primary offering, arranged in mixed and same-sex rooms of four to eight beds, each with lockers for valuables. A small number of private twin and double rooms are also available for travellers who want a degree of separation without paying boutique-hotel rates.

Shared bathroom facilities are cleaned daily; a communal kitchen with cooking equipment allows self-catering; and wireless internet covers common areas and most sleeping rooms. The rooftop terrace doubles as a social gathering point in the evenings, where travellers exchange route notes and local recommendations.

Breakfast is available for a small additional charge and typically covers coffee, bread, and local spreads. The surrounding streets support a dense network of traditional Tunisian cafés, pastry shops, and affordable restaurants serving brik, couscous, and grilled meats within a five-minute walk.

The hostel is affiliated with Hostelling International (HI), so members receive a discounted nightly rate. The front desk team provides basic advice on medina navigation, transport, and onward travel to Hammamet, Sousse, and the south.
