Serenity Beaches Resort

Serenity Beaches Resort sits on Uoleva Island, a remote and largely uninhabited landmass in the Ha'apai group, roughly 200 kilometres north of Nuku'alofa. Reaching it requires a domestic flight to Ha'apai Airport, a transfer to Pangai (the group's main town), and a short boat crossing to Uoleva's western shore — a journey the resort coordinates for guests. Uoleva is known among Ha'apai travellers for its long white sand beaches, shallow turquoise water, and near-total absence of commercial infrastructure; there is no road traffic, no convenience stores, and minimal light pollution after dark, making it one of Tonga's most genuinely remote and secluded destinations.

The resort operates as an eco-property, using local timber and thatch construction and minimising generator dependence in favour of solar energy where feasible. Accommodation spans two fale types: open-air fales — raised platforms with a thatched roof and roll-down side curtains that allow guests to sleep within sound of the ocean — and enclosed garden fales with more complete walls, mosquito screening, and greater privacy. All fales have outdoor garden bathrooms, an arrangement consistent with the property's eco philosophy that requires comfort with open-air living. Air conditioning is not available.

A yoga pavilion hosts morning and late-afternoon sessions. The restaurant serves three meals daily based on local produce and fresh fish; dietary requirements are accommodated with advance notice. Activities centre on whale swimming (July to October), stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking in the surrounding lagoon, and guided snorkelling walks along the fringing reef. There is no spa facility and no fitness centre; the property's appeal is the environment itself — the combination of whale encounters, undisturbed reef snorkelling, and disconnection from digital routines that only a place this remote can deliver.
